New to site, not to craft
|Hello everyone, and blessings upon you all. I am called Druidist. I completed my four years of "Ovate" training in Wales, followed by seven years of study and service as a "Bard" in Japan, whereupon my completion was finally elevated to the status of "Druid," third level. Have since graduated to level 2. Needless to say, it is an extremely long process but such is the price for taking a road less traveled. After many, many years of independent practice and study, I have only recently applied for acceptance in the AODA (Ancient Order of Druids in America). I specialize in general, as well as, personally hand-crafted charms, tokens, talismans, amulets, and runes (Elder Norse Futhark). I have amassed quite a collection of spells over the last 50 years or so, both ancient and modern. I also worked with potions for many years. However, since contracting Parkinson's Disease four years ago and the detrimental effect it has had on my central nervous system and brain function, I no longer feel safe mixing potions or crafting magical artifacts. What mental faculties I still possess, I am willing to share or discuss with others should they need help. I still carry out certain rites and rituals, in a limited capacity, when possible but mostly have been house-bound for the past four years.|
|Far too many interests to list, but I am considered very eclectic…more like eccentric. LOL Due to my illness, most hobbies and interests have been curtailed or brought to a complete halt. I am, however, able to watch a lot of B&W movies (30 to 50 per week sometimes) with an emphasis on film noir, mysteries, and comedies of the 30s and 40s. I have literally thousands of books on science, history (ancient and 19th Century), Psychology, gemology, herbs, spells, and an endless supply of music should anyone care to discuss film, music, or literary interests. I also possess a few grimoires…not for general dissemination or discussion due to content of a more personal, if not dangerous, nature.|
When i read your intro, i felt both humbled and saddened. What an adventure your life sounds like. One could only imagine the things you might have experienced. Thank you for making yourself available and offering to share your knowledge with the community.
Should you ever find yourself in the need of a sympathetic ear, to rant, or to find something (or someone) to laugh at, feel free to contact me.
I haven't really looked much in to the druidic path (i have read literature on the history, but only in an academic sense in relation to the celts). I will look more in to that. The last book i read on it was about magic, but it seemed a bit of a farce. It had "5 druidic charms of making". One of which was a chant/spell that was made up for the 1981 movie "Excalibur". Once i saw that, it made the book, in my eyes, suspect. Perhaps the AODA site has good suggestions. You have piqued my interest, now i have to find out lol.
Anyway, glad you are here and are already helping people. Again, thank you!
